Aarthi Popat, Lab Coordinator
Aarthi received her B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University, where she worked as a research assistant and completed her honors thesis under Dr. Ellen Markman. Her thesis examined how directional comparisons made between individuals (e.g., “Sally is just as smart as Tommy is!”) affect judgements about those individuals and the larger social groups they belong to (e.g., gender). Aarthi is particularly interested in how language and explanations can implicitly contribute to children’s motivation, self-perception, and formation of stereotypes about social groups.
